January 3 1910

Spent the day putting to rights the house and washing apparel of yesterday.

Hubby went to town and brot out the chicken pen, a First National Bank Calendar, and my new hat. All of which are beauties.

The calendar is a picture, "Just a Song at Twilight"

Made a doll dress for Minnie.

  1. woke up early to a rainbow out the bay window. Made crepe bater and went for a run/walk [mostly walk] while the rest of the house woke up. It is amazing how far you can travel on foot in 30 minutes. i left the house and suddenly I was on University Ave. Stopped by the store on the walk home and bought Nutella.

Made Banana-Nutella crepes for breakfast. Yum. Gave Ace a haircut, he was looking a bit muppety. He needed some muppet-scaping.

Julia is having a party tonight and needed to make the house ready.17 teenagers will be here is 30 minutes. Lots of entertaining lately. It's a bit of work but I do love to hear happy sounds in my house. Julia opted to serve corn-dogs and popcorn with red vines for desert. Easy-peezy.

Mike and I are going to go make a fire in the guest house and prep for doing some work tomorrow. Escaping the teenage chaos is a happy byproduct of this.

It is supposed to get down to 42 tonight. Cozy fire, here I come.

  2. Woke up early and got straight to business today, and this is the first minute I've sat down for myself!

First day back at work. I think it's more exciting to go back as Communications Director than it was to go back as Office Manager!
Knowing I would be taking pictures and writing all day seemed so much more inspiring than wearing 10 different hats and spreading myself thin in the old position. So, meetings, plans for the new work year, and rushing home late to cook up dinner.

My mom brought over a mandarin chocolate cheescake that she made for us- best I've ever had!

The boys are watching British Top Gear, and I am settling down to work a bit more, unfortunately. It's always like this coming back from a vacation, but everything should be back to normal by the end of the week.

  3. The first day back to school for the kids. Cooper was up early, in the shower and out the door before I even got out of bed! Sadie, on the other hand was all congested and whiny so we kept her home. I fixed oatmeal with a dusting of brown sugar and a splash of milk and then sent her off to bed for the rest of the afternoon.

Scotty spent the morning working on an Alkali Flats track to send to Phono Select for a local compilation that they are producing. Chris Harvey came over to lend an ear. Choosing a song proved difficult. But in the end, they found one!

My mom and Grant came over around 1 and we waited for Coop to get out of school so we could catch the happy hour at the sushi bar. Boy did we catch it and then some! Yum. And if that wasn't delicious enough, we topped it off with a trip to Gunther's Ice Cream Parlor.

This may be a good time to mention I begin my running class tomorrow.

Spent the evening working on paperwork. Completely distracted by family and visitors. I'll need to work on it again tomorrow. My own fault, I hate paperwork. Hate, hate, hate!

Scotty and I are going through old Poplollys songs that were never exposed to the public. We're considering sharing them. Crazy and embarrassing but what the hell.

I've been thinking about a resolution for 2011. I'm not fond of new years resolutions. I think that throughout the year I'd like to minimize my hat collection. I wear many.

  4. Last day of vacation for the kids. The kids were all chomping at the bit waiting to get back into our usual routine.

Girls to a regular Monday appointment, Trenton stayed home to play on Xbox360 and to our absolute delight made a wonderful dinner of hamburger stroganoff from scratch, my recipe - or what semblance of one I could come up with as I just throw it all together to taste. It was awesome! Plates were made and set on the table and a candle was lit. Richard and I felt really bad for doubting that he would pull himself away from his new toy.

Unfortunately the rest of the night was not so pleasant. Rhiannon, our 6 year old, woke up around 9 pm with a toothache and Avalyn, our 4 year old, took a nice long nap and woke up at 11 pm probably due to excitement. Another unfortunate event of the evening was that Rhiannon got sick as Avalyn was waking up from her nap and the girls and Richard camped on the couch the night before school.

A happy occurrence - I started back to school to prepare for my busy week. I allowed someone to host our bunco game at our new house and have a single day temporary assignment on the 5th. We are also preparing to have a "Richard's belly button/AA/housewarming party extravaganza" at the end of the month and prep work is being done to put things in motion for that.
