January 10 1910

Clear & warm. Brisk south wind

Took Julia to school after weeks vacation.

Hubby found Old gray Bill down in stable. We worked all morning and finally raised with tackle and Dick & Milly at 2 o'clock. He stayed up rest of day; is eating well and looks very hopeful.

Hilda Moehlman here awhile, wanted Fred to hand her a load of alfalfa hay tomorrow.

Went after Julia in evening. Talked with Mrs. Churchill a long time. Baked and helped with evening chores.

Mrs. (Judge) Morris not expected to live.

  1. Icy morning. Had to scrape my windshield this morning.
Working on being a better employee this month.
As long as I do my job well, I don't feel as bad for hating it.
Feeling achy and a little sore throaty too. Tim says its the Nevada cigarette smoke leaving my body. Blaaah. I think I may need to find a good detoxing remedy.
Removed the last of Christmas tonight. I do love Christmas lights.
Early bedtime intended but 1o is going to have to do. Another busy day tomorrow.

  2. A beautiful day today, too bad I never made it outside.
We registered for baby things at the terrifyingly pastel babies r us this weekend. I still have a pastel hangover. There were, however some useful things, so I guess I don't hate myself overly.
Aside from the pastel hangover today was fairly uneventful, the morning started out with a quick meeting where I got a 3% merit raise. Part of me wonders if I had tried harder if it would have been a higher percentage, but part of me doesn't think so, economic realities being what they are.. God I hope no one from work reads this.

  3. Lovely warm and sunny.

Spent most of the day with Ace, trying to get as much time in before he leaves. We went and did some errands and shopping.

Left Mike at home relaxing. I think it is sometimes tough for Mike to have a couch day because I am always spinning around the house being productive. We all laughed when we got home hours later and he was in the same spot. He assured us he did move. HMMM?

Mike made Steak, baked potatoes and garlic Parmesan asparagus. It was great. I cleaned out my closet. I took out everything, completely empty.

I can't believe how much stuff I have. I am taking about half to the thrift store. It is still too full.

I will feel good to wake-up in a clean space.

  4. Stayed in the 20's until mid morning. Wow!
Thick tule fog on my drive through the farmlands to the Woodland school. I love thick fog. It's like driving through silver.

I love being in the company of the Directress and teachers at the Woodland school- all amazing, inspiring ladies. Wendy was a wonderful resource today- she recommended a few books for Jack, and then handed over a giant reference list, grouped by age and subject matter. We're in a weird transistion with Jack- his reading level is much higher than his age, but he's pretty much already read most everything that is appropriate so far. His tastes are changing, too. Gone (temporarily?) are the days of Jack London & Mark Twain and olden day adventures- he's heading deep into science fiction. So this reference will be a huge help to our family- we were all so stumped at our last trip to the book store... This is a tough spot to be in with an insatiable reader!

Worked efficiently today, and was actually done by the time class let out!
Hoping to keep the rhythm. After school, paid all the monthly bills and got more papers in order for the home loan processing, while Jack took Charlie to the park around the corner. Dana worked in the bay area today, and arrived home in time to join us at Jack's first basketball practice of the season. Cooked a simple dinner and now we are all tucked in for the night.

  6. Woke up to a chilly morning in more ways than one. We didn't sleep well because Avalyn (4) crawled in bed with us and she's a kicker. Little sleep led to little patience that ended in a fight. Thankfully my friend/former roommate/hairdresser was in town to be a neutral party and interject where needed. She treated us to breakfast at Mel's, steak, eggs and biscuits and gravy, yummy! We dropped Richard off at home and spent the rest of the afternoon at Ikea - had Swedish meatballs for lunch and on our way out the door my pregnant friend bough cinnamon rolls and an ice cream cone. Made it home in time to pick up the kids and get the girls to their counseling appointment. When we got home it was grilled cheese sandwiches with bacon for dinner - with my pregnant friend in town my day revolved around food, I never got hungry enough to eat the next meal! Another friend came over and we got our hair done, the reason my friend was visiting in the first place, she flies out from Colorado every 6-8 weeks to take care of the hair clients she left behind - she is a fantastic friend and hairdresser! Not looking forward to Tuesday as I have to sit in a room with my fiance, his ex-wife and her mother along with the girls counselor (thank goodness) to talk about the rules we want to be the same at both houses. Need courage...I think of the advice I was given once again - I am just trying to do what is best for the children.
