January 20 1910

Boo/Cold and N.W. Wind. Clear.

Hubby went at 8:30 to fix rope at school. I took Julia to crossroads.

Earl Cole came back with Hubby.

Made Freddie a bib out of dress shield.

Got Knox gelatin recipe book.

Helped hubby load three loads of manure from stable.

Set first milk to cream to see if it is good yet.

Walter Wood brot Julia past on way home.

Potatoes seem to be "glassing".

Cleaned ashes out of airtight heater.

  1. Today started cold but became sunny and warm - outside. We had a great morning, kids were cooperative and everything seemed like it was going to be happy, easy and productive. Got home to start on homework and finished my discussion board - unfortunately I saved it over the previous weeks homework, but I can always copy and paste from the board last week so no major dilemma there. Richard didn't sleep well last night so fell asleep next to me on the couch. I was having trouble concentrating on the rest of my homework so migrated to the bedroom to finish - ended up napping myself, good thing I set my alarm. Woke to a happy thought that I didn't need to get going right away because the girls were to be picked up by mom - or so we thought. Once again we got the call "I can't pick them up today, so I need you to do it". Seem more and more often this is the case but they are concerned that WE don't get quality time with them because we don't have them on the weekends. Frustrating to have to deal with what I am but thankful that I am able to be the role model and be there for the girls - even if it doesn't seem as important to them...someday they will know that if I wasn't there, they would be left at school due to some very selfish reasons.
If it wasn't enough that 10 minutes before I needed to head out the door I get the call for the kids, my car decides to get picky and stop running - without the air conditioning on anyway. Picked up all three, drop Trenton off at drama troupe practice and as I am heading out of the parking lot the car stalls. The girls and I got a ride home from one of the most fabulous people at the school (we LOVE, LOVE, LOOOOOOOVVVVEEEEE Miss Marie). Richard was able to find out that the car would work with the air on and was able to get it home and back out to pick up Trenton, I hope that it is another simple fix - last time we thought it was the fuel pump and it ended up being a pinched sensor wire - a $200+ difference in the cost.
Today has got Richard on edge and we are all walking on egg shells around him and it still is too loud or unnerving or whatever for him so I am going to try and make the rest of the evening salvageable and hope beyond hope that tomorrow is better.

  2. Woke up about every 30 minutes or so all through the night, due to not being able to breathe. After my fever actually getting higher and higher up until bedtime last night, it finally broke mid morning. So glad to be through that part!

Dana had to work in the city today, so I was left to fend for myself. That basically amounted to me piling my nightstand with beverages, so I wouldn't have to get up throughout the day. Still very weak. There was work I could have done, but no pressing deadlines, so I decided to take an actual sick day and get uninterrupted rest. I can make up the work this weekend.

Took advantage of our 'tv on the internet' for the first time and napped on and off through Little House on the Prarie all day. Ha! I loved that show growing up- corny, I know. The literary 'character I most identify with is Anne of Green Gables, but Laura Ingalls would be a close second, I guess. Actually, maybe a little more Laura Ingalls- she's got that hint of sass, and Anne was always a little too overemotionally dramatic.

Dana got back into town in time to pick up Jack from Mandarin lessons, and the boys brought home fresh soup for dinner. I got up and took my first shower in days, and was actually able to stand long enough for that and to put fresh sheets on the bed. Took it all out of me though- I plan on resting most of tomorrow as well....

I'm excited to finally be able to sit down and add a comment to Julia's diary. Since I'm 9 hours ahead of my U.S. friends, I'm seeing this entry in the morning of the 21st and not in the evening of the 20th. Should I write about what happened yesterday? Or, should I write about what I hope to accomplish today? A bit of both?

Yesterday (the 20th) was another very long day. While Zoë was at school, I scrubbed the paint droplets off the floor of her new, freshly painted bedroom. Then I finished painting our little entry hall while Martin assembled Zoë's closet and tried to figure out how to get her bed up the stairs. It all worked out in the end, but there was a lot of time wasted trying to find screws amidst the sea of unpacked boxes and sawing bits off the bed in order make it fit up the stairwell.

During the rest of the day, Martin and I did errands: meeting at the bank, grocery shopping, picking up Zoë from school... boring stuff. We also did a bit of walking around our new neighborhood. Then, we returned home and I unpacked all of Zoë's boxes until it was time to eat dinner. We accomplished quite a lot yesterday, which is always a good feeling.

  4. I think I have allergies and it is making me feel just a little bit terrible.

Julia and I had quite a go round today. We have such good times but when we don't it is really terrible and it makes my heart hurt. I am sure that every parenting book tells you not to take teenagers seriously. Good luck.

Another day of lower than hoped for productivity at the studio.

Made pesto pizza for dinner. Tomorrow is another day.
